Its pritty good for a first try, though how much time did you spend on it? I dont think you used enough tones for each colour, you may have used 3 but It looks like you have only use 2 tones for each colour. You could use some more darker and lighter tones to ake the image pop more and always remember what the surface of what your panting looks like. The way you have coloured the hair looks exactly the same as her sweater.
Other than that looks good just remember to look at how other people do it and then try mimick it and attempt to get the same effect. (some people dont like constructive crit so if you dont like it just tell me)
How much time? A couple of hours I guess. And I'll try to increase the tones in the next one. By the way, do you have a tutorial or something on how to paint skin? Because I didn't know how to do that and it didn't turn out how I wanted it. As for the hair, it's best to draw one hair at a time or a lock at a time?
I'm glad you like it for a first try and I'll try to improve those things in the next one. I'll probably make quite a lot of pieces during my spring break, so I hope there will be some noticable improvements at the end.
And I like actually constructive criticism. It helps me to improve (that's why I try to comment at other people's works as good as possible too). Thanks for the advice!
Yea with hair you dont need to go over board and do every hair just the general locks of hair as you said. But it all depends on what outcome you are looking for. Yes I do have a tutorial and it has how I do skin [link] its teadious and diffocult to grasp but see how you go if you want to use it.
Good luck with the other pieces you are sure to see improvement!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example.
